Healthy food for hypertension

Hypertension can be a serious health problem.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a common risk factor for heart disease and kidney disease and a host of other health problems.

Heart disease remains the number one killer of adults in the United States and one in four adults have hypertension as a health issue.

Some adults are aware of high blood pressure and can cause health problems, while others are not.

Hypertension can not be cured but can be managed with medication, a healthy diet and moderate exercise, among other things.

There are many things that a person has high blood pressure can do.

One is to eat a healthy diet.

But what a healthy diet means?

Reduction of fat that you eat – Reduce consumption of fried foods. Grill, stew, bake instead.

Stick with unsaturated fats (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated). Studies have shown that these fats actually reduce LDL (bad stuff) cholesterol and maintain HDL (the good stuff) cholesterol.

Start with low-fat dairy products and 1% – 2% fat milk, cheese, yogurt. Just try non-fat dairy products.

Increasing the amount of fiber you consume – Have five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

A healthy diet is one that is low in calories and fat, because one way to lower blood pressure naturally is to lose weight.

If a person maintain a healthy weight, they often can reduce blood pressure without medication.

Another thing to increase the overall health of a person with hypertension is for them to have an active lifestyle and increase their exercise and physical activity.

They should also learn, stress management techniques such as yoga, tai chi, or meditation, if they are the kind of person who is easily stressed.
